Since our 6th brigade (southeastern United States) college/university ROTC Reps (ROOs) did not get to meet with JROTC instructors this summer at our JROTC Workshops, this is the next best way to still help instructors, Cadets, and students informed about the ROTC Scholarship opportunities available.  This event is for HS students and Cadets across the nation to learn more about ROTC/Officership through the past, present, and future Cadets/officers that will be speaking. Attached document has more information and the link below is the registration site if any student would like to register and either learn more about ROTC scholarships or attempt to win cool door prizes. There is no registration fee and even the JROTC Cadre or parents can attend and learn more about ROTC Scholarship opportunities.

All of the Brigades ROOs (college/university ROTC Reps) will have a table at this event and will be representing over 100 universities and colleges in the 6th Bde footprint. Even if the student or Cadet does not wish to attend one of our ROTC programs in the southeastern US, 6th Brigade can refer them to a college/university they are interested in.
Any questions can be sent to Mr. Jay A. Hansen at our 6th brigade HQs.

Financial Aid

It's important for students and families to understand the types of resources available for funding a college education. As important, students need to know the timeline for applying in order to get the most scholarships and financial aid.

The four sources of financial aid are private scholarships, money that comes directly from the college or universityfederal aid, and state aid.  Most students get money from all sources and deadlines are very important. The FAFSA is required for federal student aid.

The FAFSA results may also be used for private scholarships, money that comes directly from the college or university and also for state financial aid, all with different deadlines.

In a normal fall season, the Brown Admission staff would be traveling across the country and around the world. As many colleges and universities, including Brown, begin work on an entirely virtual visit season, and as school districts grapple with how to reopen safely, we are acutely aware that this is not a normal year. COVID-19 continues to impact our lives in many ways, and we continue to fight the coronavirus alongside devastating natural disasters and the daunting injustices of systemic racism. In a year and a world in which so much has happened, we have all had to adapt to a challenging set of new realities. Every year, I believe it is important to acknowledge and applaud your efforts on behalf of your students. This year in particular, we are sensitive to how quickly and creatively you found ways to work within the constraints of virtual learning - all the while counseling parents and students whose anxiety about the college admission process has only been amplified. We want to say thank you for the guidance, perspective and inspiration you provide to your students every day, and to partner with you throughout this process.

Need Blind and No-Loan Financial Aid Commitment
For your students who may be considering Brown, I want to assure you that our commitment to access and opportunity for all students, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances, remains steadfast. Financial support for our students remains one of our highest priorities. We continue to provide a world-class educational experience in a community of scholars from a vast array of perspectives. We actively seek students from a broad range of socioeconomic, geographic and ideological backgrounds. Brown meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need. Through The Brown Promise initiative, we have eliminated packaged loans from all undergraduate financial aid awards. Our generous financial aid ensures that financial considerations do not prevent talented students from choosing Brown.

Impact of Gap Years on the Class of 2025
We know that there has been concern over whether increased gap year requests from the Class of 2024 due to the pandemic will impact college admission prospects for the Class of 2025. Though we did grant approximately 40 gap year requests beyond our historic mean, we plan to expand the size of the Class of 2025 accordingly. Students should know that the overall probability of admission has not changed despite how different the admission process may look this year.

Extenuating Circumstances and Extensions
We offer our sincere sympathy and support to those impacted by natural disasters or other community tragedies, which have become all too frequent this year. Application deadline extensions are available for those students who have been impacted by extenuating circumstances, and students will not be disadvantaged in the admission process for delays caused by events beyond their control. Please know that same flexibility and support extends to you, as well as teachers and other school officials who may be submitting letters of recommendation or other application materials on behalf of students applying to Brown. For any questions regarding extenuating circumstances, fee waivers or extensions, please reach out to us directly at [email protected] or 401-863-2378.

Brown remains deeply grateful to you for your continuing wisdom and counsel, and we look forward to working with you in what are sure to be unusual times ahead. Please accept my best wishes for a healthy, safe and successful year.

Sincerely,

Logan Powell

Greetings from the Sunshine State!

My name is Maribeth Stevens, and I am the Assistant Vice President for University Campus Enrollment at Saint Leo University in Tampa Bay, Florida. I have the distinct pleasure of working with you and your students as they explore the opportunities that Saint Leo can offer them as future students.

Over the past year, your role as a college counselor has seen “other duties as assigned” increase without question. You have become sounding boards not only for concerned students and families, but also for those of us on the other side of the desk as we look to navigate this ever-changing situation together. This is a challenging time for the world, and particularly for students and families to experience the changes that are happening to higher education as we know it.

Now more than ever, I am proud to be able to reintroduce you to Saint Leo University. Saint Leo has withstood the test of time and emerged even stronger out of challenges that we have faced in our history. Founded in 1889 in the Benedictine core values of respect, integrity, community, excellence, personal development, and responsible stewardship, we will face these challenging times head-on, together.
We are thrilled to introduce our new scholarship program for the Fall 2021 Semester:
    • We have increased our merit scholarships that now range between $10,000 - $14,000 per year. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships with no separate application needed.
    • This is a new $3,000 stackable annual award for students who graduate from a Catholic high school within the United States
  • New D2R Associate Degree Program
    • This program will offer students the opportunity to pursue an Associate’s Degree for less than $10,000 tuition per year. Students with a high school GPA between 2.00 – 2.39 will qualify for this specific program.
I have also provided additional information to introduce Saint Leo at a glance. Please feel free to share this information with your students who may be interested in studying in the Sunshine State!
    • Get a first look at Saint Leo!
    • This will allow students to easily add their names to our inquiry pool to receive our emails and outreach
    • Even if students cannot visit campus physically, I would invite them to tour our beautiful campus from the comfort of their own homes
    • Find your specific admissions team member here
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team – we are here to help!
I wish you the best of luck in the coming months, and please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything that we can do to help with those “other duties as assigned."

Best,

Maribeth Stevens

As we continue to move through these unpredictable times, we know your seniors are still busy with college applications. We want to be sure you know about the Emory University Scholar Programs, our comprehensive merit scholarships that empower students to reach their full potential and make an impact on the world. The Scholars application deadline is November 15, 2020.

Not much has changed since last year; however, we want to provide a quick refresher about how the Scholars selection process works with this year's test optional policy in mind.

What kind of student is an Emory Scholar?
At Emory, we believe the criteria for a merit scholarship goes way beyond GPA and test scores, especially in a year where so many students don't have scores.

We invest in students who have creative minds, are intellectually curious, and are engaged with their communities and areas of interest.

Emory Scholars are typically the students you describe like this: “I have never met a student this curious, engaged, bright, accomplished, and kind, all wrapped into one.”

Can students without test scores be considered for merit scholarships?
Yes! Students who have not submitted test scores (or who have stated they would not like their scores considered in the review of their application) will be eligible for full merit scholarship consideration.

For many years, test scores have not been a large part of our holistic review process. We will lean more heavily on other application materials, including personal statements, short answer questions, letters of recommendation, high school transcript, and, where available, alumni interview feedback.

Dear Students,

My name is Alyssa Gorkin, I am the Programming Director for EEqual, an entirely youth run non-profit organization dedicated to mitigating the impacts of economic inequality for students experiencing homelessness. I’m reaching out because we recently launched a scholarship program that I would like to share with you! I think that we could create a very successful connection. Our 2021 Scholarship Awards Program application is now open, and your help in distributing it would be greatly appreciated.

As a brief background on the scholarship, this is our second year running this program and we would like to ensure that we are reaching the correct students. The program itself is designed to highlight the incredible potential of young people in the United States who are struggling with homelessness, housing instability, or extreme poverty. This scholarship covers tuition costs, up to $2,000. This can be used for any type of higher education, including but not limited to community college classes, trade school/trade certifications, bachelors degrees and so on.  Students are eligible to apply if they are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity as defined under the McKinny-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program (MV) students in extreme poverty; or students whose family is currently going through a transition) to attain post-secondary education. A more detailed explanation of eligibility can be found at https://eequal.org/scholarships/. The application opens on January 4th, 2021 and will close on March 31st, 2021. We expect to notify recipients in May 2021.

We would greatly appreciate your help in distributing this opportunity to students whom you may know would benefit from the award. If you have any questions about this opportunity please reach out to me, I would be happy to talk more in depth about this opportunity! The link to apply is https://eequal.org/scholarships/. This webpage has more in depth information about both the details of the program and the application. In addition I've attached a flyer with some information that we would appreciate if you could distribute where you see fit. Thank you for your consideration!

Warmly,

Alyssa Gorkin

I want to share some more exciting news about our annual Bridging the Dream Scholarship program and mention some enhancements and changes from previous years.

While the benefits and value of a higher education have never been greater, access is uneven, and far too many first-generation, low-income, and minority students face obstacles in reaching and completing college.

To help meet our needs, The Sallie Mae Fund, the charitable arm of Sallie Mae®, has partnered with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to launch a new scholarship program. The Sallie Mae Fund Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program will provide $1 million a year over the next three years to help students access and complete post-secondary education.

What You Need to Know:

Nearly 900 students, including high school seniors will receive                        scholarships through the scholarship program over the next three years.

Who is eligible:

The Bridging the Dream Scholarship for High School Seniors: In 2021, The Sallie Mae Fund will award (25) $10,000 scholarships to high
school seniors who plan to enroll in a two- or four-year degree professional certificate, or vocational training program. Seniors who excel
inside and outside of the classroom and demonstrate financial need can apply now through March 8 at www.salliemae.com/landing/bridging-the-dream

What is different:

Counselors no longer will need to nominate students making it even

easier to share this information with all students.  You can share the link     above and ask your students to submit their application for the

   scholarship.

What other scholarships are offered:

  • The Completing the Dream Scholarship: In 2021, The Sallie Mae Fund will award (260) gap scholarships worth up to $2,500 to minority students and those from underserved communities who are on track to graduate but are at-risk of not completing due to financial emergency or unpaid school bill. Students can apply for the Completing the Dream Scholarship, at www.salliemae.com/landing/completing-the-dream

  • The Bridging the Dream Scholarship for Graduate Students: Coming later this year, The Sallie Mae Fund will also offer (10) $10,000 scholarship to
minority students and those from disadvantaged communities who are pursuing a graduate degree

I’ve attached a flyer about the programs that can be shared your parents or others who may benefit from this information. Please let me know if you have any questions.

For official scholarship rules, visit salliemae.com/about/scholarship-opportunities. No purchase necessary.  Void where prohibited.  Ends March 8.

If you have any questions or need any additional information on this scholarship or our scholarship search resource tool, please reach out any time.

Hello and Happy February!

We hope all of you are feeling encouraged as deadlines pass and you are nearing the end of supporting another class through the application process! While our office remains in quiet time, limiting interactions to focus on reading, we have resumed conducting several virtual visit opportunities. With this, we wanted to share those with you, as your students are finalizing their college lists and deciding what might come next.

Virtual Campus Visit Experience.
An opportunity to attend an admissions information session given by someone from our office, as well as a student-led virtual campus tour.

Q&A Panel and Video Chat with a Student Leader.
A chance to have questions answered by current UGA students, as well as a video chat drop-in option.

Admitted Student Events.
Before finalizing their decision, admitted students are able to learn more about all UGA has to offer through our Virtual New Dawgs programs. Admitted students can register for these virtual sessions through their email.

Hoping all is well for each of you!

Illinois Tech is simplifying the admission process this year through our revised requirements and our commitment to affordability—including a minimum $25,000 scholarship for new, incoming  FAFSA-eligible students in fall 2021.

We understand that COVID-19 has potentially impacted your students' ability to participate in standardized testing as well as some academic, extracurricular, and service-learning activities and organizations which are traditional ways of demonstrating accomplishments in a college application to compete for merit scholarships. Alongside these concerns, many families are experiencing financial uncertainty adding to the stress of the college application and enrollment process during such an unprecedented time.

Because of this, we are offering admitted students a minimum merit tuition/housing scholarship of $25,000 a year so long as they apply on or before March 15, 2021. The scholarship is only for admitted students who begin their studies full-time at Illinois Tech in fall 2021. The $25,000 scholarship is renewable annually for four years (five for architecture) as long as they maintain continuous full-time enrollment. Eligible students may also qualify for additional need-based aid by completing the FAFSA.

Students who submit their application after the March 15 deadline will still be considered for merit scholarships starting at $10,000 until our rolling admission deadline of August 1.

Additionally, we will continue to waive standardized test requirements for students who are planning to apply for admission in the fall 2022 semester.

If you have any questions regarding Illinois Tech's application requirements, visit our Counselor Resource webpage or reach out to an admission counselor.

Kind regards,

Toni Riley
