October 12, 2020
Dear SPHS Parents and Guardians, In an effort to foster the safest environment for all of our students each and every day at South Pike High School, our faculty, staff, and students in conjunction with the Magnolia Police, Magnolia Fire Department, and the Pike County Sheriff Department will participate in a mandatory annual drill. All schools in Mississippi are required to do an Active Shooter Drill in which schools simulate, with the help of first responders, what it could look and sound like in the event of an active shooter in the building
As violent and tragic events continue to take place in the country, we know we have to continue to take steps to prevent such events from occurring. By training our students and staff, we are taking the necessary steps to prepare our campus for unforeseen emergencies. We are required to complete the active shooter drill within the first 90 days of school, in order to increase knowledge and awareness.
Our Active Shooter Drill will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020. This drill will allow our students and staff to practice safety procedures while also helping SPHS become safer through the knowledge gained and areas for improvement we identify each time a drill is done. Please be aware that various law enforcement will be on campus during the drill to make this process as realistic as possible. Please keep in mind that this is only a drill and your child is safe and does not need to be picked up.
The safety and education of our students is, and will always be our number one priority. We appreciate your continued support as we provide our faculty, staff, and students with critical information and training to aide in keeping them safe on our campus. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 601-783-0420.
Sincerely,
Caprice Smalley, Principal South Pike High School
